When to use it
Use this agreement whenever you buy or sell a used car privately. It records exactly what was sold, for how much, and the moment responsibility passed from the seller to the buyer.
What it covers
- Both parties' details: names, guardian names, CNIC numbers, phone numbers and addresses.
- The car: make, model, year, colour, registration number and city, engine and chassis numbers, and the odometer reading.
- Price and payment: the full price in figures and words, and the payment method. It can also record an advance with a balance due by a set date.
- Handover: the exact date and time, and the documents the seller hands over: registration book or smart card, file, keys, token tax receipts and a transfer letter.
- Liability: the seller answers for challans, taxes and claims before handover, and the buyer from handover onwards.
- Optional extras: witnesses and any additional terms you agree on.
Why the handover time matters
Traffic challans and legal claims are tied to the car. Recording the handover date and time protects both sides: anything before it is the seller's responsibility, and anything after is the buyer's.
After signing
The buyer should transfer the car into their own name at the Excise and Taxation office. The agreement gives them 30 days. The seller must be available for biometric verification.
